About Me

Hi! My name is Kimaya and this nutrition consultation service is for clients who want to reach their health goals without giving up flavorful meals. I appreciate the diversity of cuisines and understand there is no "one size fits all" diet. The good news is that taste and nutrition are not exclusive concepts; I'll show you how to bring them together to achieve success.

Background

Kimaya Joshi combined her interests in food science, biochemistry, and health education to graduate from Saint Louis University with a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics as well as minors in Public Health and Interdisciplinary Healthcare Education (the first of its kind in the nation). She completed her dietetic residency at a hospital in Chicagoland and passed her board exam to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). Since then she has moved to sunny Los Angeles and continues to provide medical nutrition therapy to patients in a local hospital specializing in cardiopulmonary conditions, diabetes management, and geriatrics. She is also certified as a dementia capable care specialist and is currently completing training to specialize in the dietary management of IBS through Monash University.

Aside from academic experience, she co-created the Junior Green Youth Farm at the Roberti Community House with support from the Chicago Botanic Gardens and in a separate program helped to implement physical activity curriculum into school districts (elementary, middle, and high schools). She has also worked in the food industry for 6+ years. From boutique and plant based restaurants to hospital tray lines and delivery, she is well seasoned with food in all stages of farm to table.

If you are looking for help with a condition/concern not listed, feel free to email me anyways. If I don't have experience in that area, I will be happy to refer you to another Registered Dietitian Nutritionist who does.

A: We will establish your health and wellness goals, review your current diet in detail, identify the most effective changes to make, discuss obstacles you may face to making these changes, and provide solutions to overcome those barriers. All this will be done within your comfort level and will take into account your health beliefs and cultural/alternative diet preferences.

A: I want a Registered Dietitian, the nutrition healthcare specialist, to be accessible to as many people as possible.

A: In my experience, clients who receive a meal plan without counseling have the least long-term success. This happens because it has not been tailored to your needs. When we meet for counseling, I create an individualized meal plan to fit your lifestyle (time, finances, cultural background, cooking skill, work/school schedule, etc).

However I understand counseling is not for everyone. If you are confident that you prefer the meal plan only route, please email me and I would be happy to discuss the logistics and pricing details.

A: In short, all Registered Dietitians are nutritionists but all nutritionists are not Registered Dietitians. In some states you can call yourself a nutritionist without any formal nutrition education, training, licensing, or certification. In all states it is illegal to call yourself a Registered Dietitian without proper credentialing. To become a Registered Dietitian, the minimum requirements include: a bachelor’s degree with completion of extensive nutrition curriculum, at least 1,200 hours of supervised practice, a comprehensive registration exam, and 75 continuing professional education credits per five-year cycle.
